Douglas Alexander joins fresh pool protest at Elderslie

22 February 2010

Local MP Douglas Alexander joined local residents of Elderslie protesting at Renfrewshire Council’s plan to close the village’s swimming pool.

Along with Elderslie Councillor John Caldwell, MP Douglas has been campaigning hard to keep the pool open. He and local residents are concerned about the impact the pool closure plan would have on both the Stoddard Square shops and the village as a whole.

Speaking after the protest MP Douglas said:

“This protest was just the latest action by local people protesting against the SNP led Council’s plans to close the local pool. It doesn’t make sense to make it harder for people to go swimming locally when we are trying to persuade young and old alike to take more exercise.

“As the local MP I will continue to speak up for our local community and stand against the SNP led Council’s plans to close local pools.”
